First post! And How This Site Was Made
Hi there, this is my first post! I finished setting up this blog on Jan. 14th, 2025 after two days of completely focusing on this project. The CSS is a heavily modified version of Kalechip's reader mode. I added the color schemes from my website including light and dark modes.
I'm testing a comment widget simply called komments which you can find at the end of this post.
The text in the blog's main page was taken from my Dreamwidth journal as well as the first three posts.
Many thanks to nomnomnami whose blog was a huge inspiration as well as the comment widget.
This blog may look simple but that's because I stripped most of the styling from the original zonelots code. Lots of copy-pasting was made to the Reader Mode CSS to ensure it works and it's not even perfect.
One big change I made is I replaced the div wrapper with a main semantic tag. Mostly for accessibility reasons. I also created a brand new footer and added it after the main tag. I edited the original footer to contain a return to top and back to homepage links. Above this, I added a blockquote for all links each post has been crossposted to which can be found in any post but this.
Uhhh, it was a lot of trial and error and working on the fly so I probably don't remember any of the gazillion changes I made to the Zonelots and Reader Mode code. (Edit: god I was gonna use "vibe coding" but I looked it up and it's much much boring than I thought. Fuck AI, hurray human-made templates!)
Hey, if you want a copy of this thing I made, leave a comment?
Oh, another change I made to the base code was that I added a div to the homepage where all the links of recent blog posts are built as well as the archive like in nami's blog. Just wanted to see how it looked.
I don't know jack about JavaScript so all I did was comment out and hoping nothing broke. For example, the example posts and the messages below the main nav. Talking about the main nav, I added some space between reach link.
I'm deploying this blog through Netlify for now because I'm testing a Github Action to deploy my site uploading the changes through Neocities. But that's gonna take a good while because I need to change every link to a relative link because I didn't do that since the start!
All in all, I'm so frigging excited to have my own blog! I can say stupid shit in the comfort of my own site! Okay no, I need to copy all blog posts from my blogs first. Then we'll see how much the power gets through my head. Byeeeee!
